My Story
We are hosting a Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
I am the assistant Clerk, Jo, and in 2023, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. It was a devastating and frightening time for me and my family. I underwent chemotherapy followed by an operation, and throughout it all, Macmillan were there to support not only me, but my family too.
Just as we were beginning to move forward, in 2025 I was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer. This meant facing another operation and another course of chemotherapy. Once again, Macmillan were there for us every step of the way, providing invaluable support, guidance and reassurance during an incredibly challenging time.
Having faced two cancer diagnoses in such a short period, I know first-hand how important Macmillan's support is. They helped me and my family through some of the darkest and most frightening moments of our lives, and their kindness and support made a real difference.
I will always be incredibly grateful to Macmillan for everything they have done for me and my family.
Macmillan is 98% funded by voluntary donations and with your help they can deliver the vital support people living with cancer need – whoever and wherever they are.
There are currently more than 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK and this number is rising, with someone diagnosed every 75 seconds. But Macmillan is doing whatever it to takes to ensure that everyone gets the best care available.
They work with partners to provide services for people living with cancer at every stage of their cancer experience, including the Macmillan Support Line, award-winning cancer booklets, their Online Community, and Macmillan professionals.
